Train travel is one of the most environmentally friendly, green, forms of transport. If you travel by air to Paris you will generate ten times more CO2 than if you travelled by Eurostar. If you care about this planet you should ask yourself if your planned air trip can be accomplished by rail. In many cases it can.
Even though, since 1995, Britain's rail network has been split into up and operated by over 20 different private companies, they all work together as National Rail and have a ticketing, fares, and information system that is co-ordinated. Tickets are generally valid on other company's trains and you can buy tickets from any pair of stations. On this site we use The Trainline website as our partner for ticket sales and route information. For European rail information and tickets we work with Rail Europe as our partner.
Check out the UK Rail Network page for information on train travel in Great Britain and the European Rail Network page for similar information about Europe. For those traveling between the UK and Paris or Brussels (and beyond), you may also wish to check out the Eurostar Page and the Page covering Ferry Crossings. You may also be looking for information about crossings to Ireland.
